Englesea Brook Chapel and Museum
About
Englesea Brook Chapel and Museum is both a beautiful working Methodist chapel and a museum dedicated to the history of Primitive Methodism, which began on nearby Mow Cop in 1807. Primitive Methodists favoured simplicity and directness, and brought their message to the people in the fields and towns via open air meetings. It was a Methodism "of the poor" rather than "for the poor". Based in Cheshire in England the museum is open Thursdays to Sundays from the beginning of April through to the end of October and covers all aspects of the history of Primitive Methodism, both in the UK and around the world. From November to March we are open for prearranged group visits and for various special events over Christmas, including a Carol Service, A Victorian Family Christmas experience and our annual performance of Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol". Details of all these, plus our many online events, can be found on our website and social media.
