Penllergare Valley Woods
About
Penllergare Valley Woods is a secret and magical place just minutes from Junction 47 of the M4, tucked into the heart of South Wales. The Victorian estate once belonged to pioneering botanist and photographer John Dillwyn Llewelyn, and today the grounds boast a spectacular waterfall on the River Llan, over a hundred hectares of mixed woodland, two lakes, seven miles of gentle walking paths, and historic ruins that echo the past centuries. Managed by the dedicated Penllergare Trust, the site offers free entry to all visitors, has a visitor centre open daily from 10 am to 4 pm, a comfortable coffee shop, and a car park available 9 am‑5 pm (parking costs three pounds for up to three hours and four pounds for the whole day). Whether you’re strolling the woodland trails, exploring the remnants of the grand house, or simply enjoying a leafy picnic, Penllergare invites families, history lovers, nature enthusiasts, and photographers to discover its natural beauty and rich heritage.
