The Castle & Gardens of Mey is a unique blend of 16th‑century Scottish heritage and verdant beauty, located in the picturesque town of Thurso. Visitors step into a former royal residence that was restored by Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, into a charming museum showcasing the estate’s history, art, and gardens. The castle’s great halls, vaulted chambers, and historic furnishings bring to life the legacy of the Sinclair family. Beyond the castle walls, the gardens span 30 acres of manicured lawns, rose beds, lily ponds, and a walled garden that hosts a variety of rare plants. An Animal Centre welcomes families, offering interactive displays of local wildlife, a donkey named Alice, and colourful farmyard activities. The Visitor Centre provides a welcoming tearoom, a gift shop, and easy access to the castle and grounds. Open from Wednesday to Sunday between 1 May and 30 September, the estate invites travellers to explore its striking architecture, historic artefacts, and serene landscapes.
