Exmoor Pony Centre
About
The Exmoor pony is one of the oldest native pony breeds in Britain and yet is currently listed as an endangered rare breed. Around 3,500 ponies survive worldwide, of which about 350 still live free on Exmoor. The Moorland Mousie Trust, based at the Exmoor Pony Centre, is a small charity working to promote and conserve these very special ponies. The Exmoor Pony Centre is open daily (except Saturdays) from 10 am to 4 pm between the Easter holidays and 31st October, with restricted opening times for the rest of the year. Entrance to the Exmoor Pony Centre is free of charge, although donations to our work are always welcome. The Exmoor Pony Centre invites visitors to come and meet our ponies and learn more about this special breed. If you wish to ride an Exmoor pony, the Centre offers two options. Our three-hour Exmoor Experience trek is for competent riders, with a discretionary minimum age of 11 years old. Alternatively we offer one hour Taster sessions in our indoor arena for those with less experience. There is a weight limit of 12 stone/75 kg for riding the ponies. Visitors to the Centre can meet the ponies and learn about their history and their life on the moor. Refreshments and toilet facilities are available as well as a pony-themed shop. Regular events are held at the Exmoor Pony Centre throughout the year. We also cater for group visits, corporate days and birthday parties (generally out of high season) so please contact us if you would like to hold your event at the Exmoor Pony Centre. For more information please have a look at our our website.
