Places to visit Weymouth & Portland more than 3,000 objects - artefacts and memorabilia Portland Prison 1848 to 1988. The daily lives of Convicts, Wardens, Inmates and Officers : Transportation to Australia, the Naval Harbour, the Breakwater, Admiralty Quarries, Hard Labour, the impact on the Community of Portland, the 1895 Gladstone Report, Winston Churchill, Borstal. Museum usually open on Saturdays 10am to 2pm, enter through the "Governor's Community Garden" - opposite the Gatehouse in Grove Rd. The Museum was founded by retired Prison Officer, John Hutton (Curator and Author) in 2014. John also provides a historical research for fellow Prison Officers their relatives and descendants.
