Captain Cook Memorial Museum Whitby
About
The Captain Cook Memorial Museum Whitby is housed in a stunning 17th‑century, Grade I listed house overlooking the picturesque Whitby Harbour. The museum tells the story of James Cook’s early years, his voyages and the broader maritime heritage of the North Atlantic. Open daily from 8 February to 2 November 2025, it offers a mix of permanent collections, rotating special exhibitions – such as this year’s Uncharted Dangers: Health at Sea and in Space – and educational programmes for schools, universities and families. Visitors can explore the original artefacts, paintings, ship models and maps, all housed in the House on the Harbour and its adjacent courtyard garden. Guided tours and virtual escape rooms are available to enrich the experience, and tickets can be purchased online or at the museum’s visitor centre.
